Drug-resistant malaria superbugs threaten a global public health disaster unless urgent action is taken to fight their spread in Southeast Asia. Mosquitos became drug resistant to the main drug used to treat them. Malaria kills around 400,000 a year as it is but this superbug can kill millions. The disease was first identified in Cambodia and continued to spread. The superbug has the ability to wipe out whole civilizations. Multi-drug resistant bugs are spreading throughout western Cambodia, southern Laos and northeastern Thailand, Vietnam’s main malaria treatment is failing Because of the drug resistant super bug. Pyrethroids have been a solution in west coast africa for most health agencies, but now it isn’t an option.
Malaria in Lombok- Julia
Indonesia's island, Lombok was destroyed by an earthquake which attracted swarms of mosquitos carrying around the deadly disease, Malaria. Many with damaged homes were infected with the disease, though Lombok was already battling Malaria before the earthquake hit.

Malaria has been a great problem in Southeast Asia. People believe that Climate Change could be affecting the disease. Increasing atmospheric temperatures caused decrease in the duration of the gonotrophic cycle as well as the extrinsic incubation period, leading to higher biting frequency, which causes a higher rate of malaria spreading.
Refugee Current Event- Kate In 2017, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees fled Rakhine State and Myanmar to Bangladesh because of violence. At first it was 70,000 people fleeing and then over 600,000 others fleeing, crossing the border. Refugees in Bangladesh and stateless people in Myanmar are likely to remain immense and dire 2018. There is a risk that maritime movement will resume with refugees using routes across the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea to other countries in the sub-region. Progress towards solutions for refugees from other parts of Myanmar continues to be made. Efforts are being made.
Disease Current Event - Kate Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite that is spread by mosquitoes. It is found in Southeast Asia and it's been around ever since the neolithic period and past that. In the 20th century it was believed that malaria alone killed about 150-300 million people. Malaria mostly comes from rural/tropical areas and are transmitted from there. Many ancient cultures turned mythology to explain malaria, they blamed headaches, chills, and three demons. Symptoms of malaria consist of shaking or chills, fever, and headache. Southeastern countries called a meeting on December 8th, 2017 to find an accelerated way to end malaria by 2030.
